The Intellectual Property Associate, Paralegal will work with the VP & IP Counsel, IP Attorneys and the IP professional staff in the department to provide superior services to the IP Legal Team's clients.


The person will interact directly with Otis technical personnel, specifically engineering, Outside Counsel and the company's business management to meet the following responsibilities:
  • Anaqua management, Passport management and assist the IP team in collecting patent data
  • Assist in maintaining accurate patent data in Anaqua
  • Develop and execute process efficiencies and metrics for a variety of IP processes (executive engineering reports, passport, budget, annuities)
  • Responsible for UTC IP metric reports and managing Otis processes to ensure all patent performance metrics are maintained and reported
  • Support preparation of the annual budget plan including annuity management and special projects as required by the VP & IP Counsel. Process oriented, database management and strategic thinking are key skills
  • Proactive approach to problem solving and ability to develop efficient processes is required

  • High level of computer software proficiency required:
    • Windows
    • Email Client Software (Microsoft Outlook)
    • Microsoft Office suite, specifically Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment and work to deadlines
  • Proactive and analytical thinking to problem solve
  • Experience with self-managing and tracking IP budget fees including Outside Counsel spend and global patent filing, prosecution and maintenance spend is preferred
  • Experience with online, web-based IP database search tools (Thomson Innovation, USPTO, EPO, etc.) is preferred
  • Exceptional Experience with Anaqua, Tymetrix, and LawTrac is a plus or willingness to learn

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience
  • Associate's degree with 3 years of experience, Intellectual property experience strongly preferred
