  • Role Overview

    Otis is looking for an Elevator Dynamics & Controls Engineer to create dynamic models for control algorithm creation, analysis and evaluation in the areas of mechanical dynamics (for example, for elevator hoistways, door systems and self-propelled vehicles) and electromechanical components (for rotary and/or linear motors).

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Develops and applies model-driven requirements based on identification of operational scenarios that consider command response, disturbance rejection, sensor sensitivities and stability robustness
    • Conceptualizes control mode structures and their associated control algorithms using a range of design methods, including classical, multivariable control, repetitive control and self-learning control
    • Evaluates control concepts using MASC tools using MIL, SIL and HIR methodology and model-based development (MBD) methods
    • Identifies, creates and actively maintains standard work methods and associated tools in the above-noted areas to ensure MBD is effectively deployed in control system designs
    • Applies MASC and MBD tools as needed to solve dynamics and control-related issues in Relentless Root Cause Analysis (RRCA) activities as they arise in fielded systems
    • Utilizes controls-related expertise in Integrated Product Development (IPD) teams to conceptualize, design and develop innovative vertical transportation system solutions (like multi-car ropeless elevators)

  • Education / Certifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent four-year degree or master’s degree in a related field
    • PhD is preferred

  • Basic Qualifications
    • Extensive knowledge of model-based development, including MIL, HIL and SIL testing and development methods and physics and empirical-based modeling and analysis, in order to accelerate development of new and improved products, requirements and architecture definition, control algorithm design and verification, and control system component (sensors, actuation) selection
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and task-driven planning, as well as an ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
    • Strong oral and written communications skills, including proficiency in technical-style writing

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Familiarity with elevator and escalator sensing and control systems, safety integrity levels and reliability engineering is preferred
